Fleas and ticks live outside in the wild, so there's no need to worry about flea control with indoor pets, right? Wrong. These pesky parasites can find their way into your home in many ways, so it's still a smart idea to treat your cat and household to reduce the risk.
You may unwittingly pick up a few hitchhikers on your walk home, whether you stroll through a park or are crossing the lawn from your garage to your front door. These pests can lurk in tall grasses, so be sure to mow your lawn regularly. You can also use a flea treatment such as Hartz® UltraGuard® Yard & Kennel Spray to kill any ticks or fleas that may be hiding just outside your door.
If fleas and ticks do find their way into your home, the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture recommended vacuuming frequently, as eggs and larvae can fall off of their host and hide in the fibers of your carpets and furniture. You can also treat the interior of your house with the Hartz® UltraGuard Plus® Home Fogger in the event of an infestation.
To keep your indoor cat as safe as possible, use a product such as flea spray or a flea collar that will prevent any of these pesky insects from finding their way into her back.
